Zachary Loeffler has a full fellowship at The University of Chicago where he is pursuing a PhD in Music History and Theory. His research interests lie in the margins between music and philosophy, and his recent papers have focused on Lewinian transformational theory, music and film, affect, and Heidegger’s concept of “transcendence.” Zach has performed in both Europe and America including recitals at Festival Mediterraneo della Chitarra in Cervo, Italy and Tennessee State University Guitar Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2007, he appeared in the English publication Classical Guitar for his performance of the forgotten Viennese composer Ferdinand Rebay. From 2005-2007, Zach studied at the Academia Tema in Milan, Italy with internationally acclaimed guitarists Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli. After returning from Italy, Zach was awarded a scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music where he received a Master of Music and was a student of Mark Delpriora. Zach graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2005; he was a scholarship student of John Johns.
